G S Kelsey Ltd were employed by Prime Life Ltd to build a brand new 34 bedroom residential nursing home. The work was completed in February, 2012 after 12 months on site. The building was constructed in the grounds of Prime Life Ltd existing home at Westerlands Care Home, Brough. The building was designed to sit in the bank of a sloping site and the storey levels vary in proportion to the existing land.
The challenging ground conditions and levels meant the build programme was far longer than a traditional build on a green field site. There were limitations on where plant and machinery could move on site which meant a mobile tower crane was utilised for almost half the contract period. Almost every trade on site made use of the crane and it proved to be an indispensable piece of plant.
G S Kelsey Ltd worked collaboratively with the client and design team continuously and it was through the constant communication and attention to detail that we were able to help Prime Life gain an additional bedroom out of the development. Our site agent worked with the engineer and architect to help introduce an extra bedroom on the lower ground floor by cutting into the bank of the site and creating additional floor space. This ultimately reduced the overall cost per bed of the development and also created an opportunity for extra revenue for our client.
The project was handed over on time for our client to vacate residents out of their existing home and into a brand new facility.
