North Lindsey College invested over £300,000 in a new catering suite. Replacing a former library into a 10-station kitchen proved challenging.
The existing building structure and layout was not conducive to the large spans required to maintain visibility in the kitchen. Demolitions and renovation works were needed to provide the correct passage for ducting both underfloor and overhead. All the existing walls had to be lined with white Rock paneling for food hygiene. A new food store and fridge were created to store produce.
G S Kelsey provided a complete building and management service for the 12-week project which also included the formation of a teaching space adjacent to the catering kitchen. Intricate mechanical & electrical and vent works were undertaken by a partner subcontractor, Binks heating. Main services also required an upgrade from an existing plant room.
Our internal groundworks team excavated trenches and laid ductwork for Binks to upgrade the supplies. The catering courses offered by the college has proved popular, with enrolments increasing year on year since the courses inaugural year.
